Our recent documentary thesis, “Ang Huling Armas” [trans: The Last Weapon], is a study about the struggles of traumatic amputation. It was the inspiration behind this poem, as our case study – Ka Anton, did prove that PWDs should not be seen less than any other human being. Their life should still be celebrated, and that the only problem is not how unfortunate they are but rather how disabling is the society they are living in. Moving forward, the community should be more accessible, sensitive, and accommodating to the needs of our PWDs.
I’ve said this, in my personal accounts, and now here: I am grateful for having the opportunity to tell Ka Anton’s story. His light approach in life is truly inspiring.
You may also notice that I tried an acrostic poem today! What do you think? The prompt used:

The Last Weapon
lost a piece of himself
in a work-related accident
message received of discrimination,
mockery, and mistreatment
bounced back on the same job
dedicating his whole life,
seeing our faces, insisting…
“smile, I am not to pity.”
